MEN'S HAIR LOSS

Have you started to notice your hair falling out when brushing it, or it's all over your clothes?

Men's Medical Hair Loss Treatment in Tampa

If you’re noticing more hair in the shower drain than on your scalp, you are not alone!

Men will experience some degree of hair loss by their 30’s.

Hair loss can occur for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, it’s triggered by changes in your hormone levels and a genetic sensitivity to certain hormones. In other cases, stress, weight loss, or medications can all have an effect on your hairline.

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is made from testosterone by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. It can also be made from DHEA, a hormone more common in women. DHT is found in skin, hair follicles, and the prostate. The actions of DHT and the sensitivity of hair follicles to DHT is what causes hair loss.

The male hormone that causes severe hair loss is testosterone. The enzyme, 5 alpha reductase, which is present in the hair follicles converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The DHT is the most potent androgen that promotes androgenetic alopecia – the common pattern of male baldness or premature hair loss.

Both men and women need testosterone. In men, the body has a large amount of testosterone and a fairly small amount of estrogenic hormones. In women, this ratio is reversed, with a small amount of testosterone and larger quantities of estrogen and progesterone hormones.

Testosterone is responsible for several functions in your body, from regulating your sex drive to keeping your bones and muscle tissue healthy and strong.
